The Virtual Combat Information Center
OBJECTIVE:
The Virtual Combat Information Center (VCIC) is an exact,
three-dimensional representation of the Ticonderoga-Class Aegis Cruiser, the USS
Cape St. George (CG-71). It allows multiple participants to immerse
virtually into the CIC on distributed graphics workstations. The
Virtual CIC can participate in distributed simulations.
- Phase I, which was delivered to the Aegis Training Center
in November, 1996, has tutorial information available in hypertext
form about each console and watch station. Nominal functionality is
included for some consoles and the Aegis Display Screen.
- Phase II, which is underway, provides for additional
console functionality, a high fidelity human figure, and creation of
a CIC Federation for inclusion into HLA-based simulations.
- Phase III will distribute the Virtual CIC
over a Local Area Network, enabling multiple players to participate in
CIC operations, and will introduce Instructor's Tools.
- Phase IV will distribute the Virtual CIC over a Wide Area
Network, enabling geographical distribution of the system, and will
introduce Intelligent Agents for tracking student progress.
